Aquapol: international police cooperation on the water

 

AQUAPOL is a European partnership of water police forces and inland navigation inspectorates. Its areas of responsibility are inland and maritime navigation (professional as well as recreational), transport security on the waterways and in the ports and fighting crime.

AQUAPOL has two aims. The first is to establish high-quality international cooperation between its members; police forces and inland shipping inspectorates. The second is to be a qualified advisor for European legislative and regulatory bodies in the area of AQUAPOLs responsibility.

AQUAPOL was founded in 2002 by the Dutch, German and Belgian water police.

At the moment (February 2007) the membership includes 9 police forces and three inland navigation inspectorates from 9 EU member states. Over the next years to come membership is expected to keep growing.
