Spanish MACO 2012

At the AQUAPOL Council meeting of October 2011 in Mainz, the Spanish Guardia Civil has launched a proposal for a regional cross-border control operation in the West Mediterranean Sea area. Other AQUAPOL members from this region decided to join this operation and also contacts were made with other enforcement agencies, like for instance Customs and with FRONTEX, the European Agency for Border Control. The so-called “AQUAPOL Multi-Agency Control Operation Concept” will be used for organising this control operation. In February 2012 the Guardia Civil organised – with support of AQUAPOL - a seminar in Madrid, dedicated to the preparation of this control operation. The operation, that will take place during the second half of 2012 and that will cover a long period of time will focus on the flow of persons and goods between the North of Africa and the South-West of Europe.
